Therapeutic Approach
From my perspective, therapy is primarily relational, which means it is far more than an educational, intellectual, or emotional experience. I am motivated toward helping people step into their life struggles with the hope of finding a more meaningful and rewarding way of life. Through a variety of conversations, the time we spend in therapy will inevitably be a struggle with two questions:
- In a personal way, what does it mean to be human with all of life’s complexities?
- In the midst of your current struggles, how then do you want to live?
I believe that in life, change is not only possible, it is inevitable. Through the process of therapy we will strive together to find a new way of living.
Education and Clinical Experience
I am a Licensed Psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (AUS, 2009) and a Masters in Christian Counseling (CCU, 1997). I have therapeutic experience working with individuals, couples, and therapy groups. Throughout the years I have been a witness to the process and believe in the possibility of change. I am committed to providing competent, compassionate, and change-oriented therapy services. I work with many different kinds of issues, including:
- relationship issues and issues of abuse,
- grief and depression,
- habitual-obsessional behaviors and addictions,
- debilitating anxieties and fears,
- overwhelming emotions and
- Christian spiritual conflicts and struggles.
Personal Experiences and Interests
I have travelled extensively, having lived in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. and speak competent French. My wife and I jumped across cultural frontiers to find each other. We have five children, one of which has significant developmental disabilities. As such, we are intimately familiar with the impact of culture and special needs.
I love nature, mountain sports, and exploring the interface between theology and psychology. In life, work, and play, I seek to know the heart of my God, the creator and sustainer of life.
